What is the Mississippi Outdoor Stewardship Trust Fund?

The Mississippi Outdoor Stewardship Trust Fund was created by the Mississippi Legislature in 2022 for the purpose of expanding conservation efforts, improving outdoor recreation, and enhancing natural resources across the state.

The funding generated is used to improve outdoor recreational opportunities in communities across Mississippi, improve access to public lands and waters, and support habitat and wildlife restoration on public and private lands.

A dedicated funding source provides a consistent amount of annual funding to help secure additional federal and private matching funds. Those funds are used to improve outdoor recreational areas in communities across Mississippi, improve access to public lands and waters, and support habitat and wildlife restoration on public and private lands.

“ We know that we have responsibility to tend to our lands and care for their preservation. This new trust fund will offer a systematic and coordinated approach to conservation and in so doing will offer a more effective and measured approach to improving our state’s parks and wetlands.”
